Is frost on the outdoor heat pump normal?+
Light frost can occur during heating operation, and the system should periodically defrost itself. Heavy ice that persists or returns quickly may indicate a problem that needs service.
Why does my thermostat say auxiliary heat?+
Auxiliary heat may operate during colder weather, recovery from a large thermostat change, or defrost. Frequent or prolonged operation in milder conditions can justify a system check.
Can you repair a heat pump that will cool but not heat?+
Yes. A heat pump that works in one mode but not the other may have a control, reversing, defrost, or other system problem that can be diagnosed on site.
